This job contributes to Starbucks success by providing timely and effective legal support to the Martech & Product Safetyteam within the Law and Corporate Affairs department. As a member of this marketing law practice group, you will collaborate with attorneys and other paralegals to help negotiate and draft commercial agreements, review creative materials, advertising and media to ensure that each brand impression is strategic and true to the Starbucks brand, and guide internal business units such as Starbucks marketing teams and public affairs. We are seeking applicants who can support a fast-paced, dynamic business environment, interact directly with diverse stakeholders and external parties, draft clear and effective contract language, and organize and prioritize a steady flow of work.

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are limited to the following:
  • Drafting and editing a variety of commercial contracts, including professional service agreements and intellectual property licenses, with supervision from Starbucks attorneys.
  • Drafting, reviewing, tracking, and transmitting legal correspondence and documents.
  • Reviewing marketing collateral and providing written feedback to attorneys and others regarding potential risks, trends, and recommended action.
  • Anticipating and initiating routine legal tasks in accordance with internal service-level agreements.
  • Managing and coordinating moderately complex administrative projects, both independently and as requested by attorneys.
  • Cross-functionally partnering with other Law & Corporate Affairs teams and business units, including on matters of intellectual property and supply chain procurement.
  • Identifying training opportunities, process improvements and supporting the implementation of educational and self-service tools and programs for internal clients.
  • Organizing and maintaining electronic records using multiple software systems within the Law and Corporate Affairs department.

We'd love to hear from people with:

  • 3+ years of relevant paralegal experience within an in-house legal department or law firm
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more areas of law related to marketing and advertising
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to quickly learn and work with multiple software and data management systems
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities, work independently, and initiate projects
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to evaluate and prioritize competing needs across a significant volume of work while maintaining high-quality [of] output
  • High ethical standards and proven ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Poise under pressure and ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
