Arming Minorities Against Addiction & Disease (AMAAD) Institute facilitates personalized individual access to programs and services that foster safe and supportive healthy environments for people to live, learn, and develop to their fullest potential. AMAAD was incorporated through a peer-based framework, and over the years has harnessed its collective human and material resources to serve multifaceted communities through transitional housing, Behavioral Health programming, and advocacy, while utilizing an approach that is especially relevant to those whom are disproportionately affected.
AMAAD is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as a Recovery Specialist who will collaboratively with the Youth Health and Wellness Manager to serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovery individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of the best practices in the understanding of and respect for each individual’s unique path to recovery and a working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system with a demonstrated commitment to the recovery community. Like all AMAAD employees, the Recovery Specialist should demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of AMAAD and should have substantial expertise in all areas of responsibility. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Services and Relationship Management
- Engage individuals and establish rapport, as evidenced by empathic and active listening, communicating in a non-judgement way, recognizing addictive behavior;
- Assist the individual to identify and prioritize strengths and needs, using various techniques that engage individuals to self-disclose;

- Assist in the development and enhancement of an individual’s comprehensive individualized recovery plan, recognizing many pathways to recovery, accessing and advocating for recovery and community resources;
- Provide recovery education to service individuals for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance. Operational
- Maintain confidentiality regarding information received during the facilitation of recovery support services (i.e., understanding of federal, state, and local confidentiality rules and regulations);
- Maintain project logs, reports and records in appropriate files and database(s);
- Sustain/develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with other AMAAD programs;
- Work with staff and other community professionals to implement and promote recovery-oriented training programs and opportunities, in concert, with AMAAD Training Manager/Coordinator.
